Routes François Ier is a non-profit organization whose aim is to introduce the French and foreign public, journalists and tourism professionals to the monuments of Francois I.
With the help of distinguished Francis I historians, a strict selection of castles and cities built during his reign in the first half of the 16th century have been chosen. Only those monuments built under his reign are included, excluding many other monuments built after the King's death (1547), consequently offering a complete view of the way people lived in castles during his lifetime. The 12 French castles are divided into 3 different Routes and include the large royal castles owned and built by the King, several castles that belonged to top noblemen of the Court, and smaller castles built by the gentry during Francois I's reign.
